Danville Little League Postseason Objectives, Policies and Procedures
Introduction
The DANV LL Postseason is an opportunity for a significantly higher level of play within the State and National Little League systems. Due to the competitive nature of summer ball, players selected to District teams require a higher level of commitment through practices, tournaments, and sheer number of games.
Danville Little League believes it is important for the process to be transparent and fair to all our families. Therefore, Danville Little League is updating the procedures for player and manager selection to better serve our community.
In our selection process for players and managers of each postseason team we look for each candidate to exemplify several important characteristics: baseball skills, sportsmanship, commitment, character/integrity, competitiveness, hustle, team spirit, team leadership, and service.
8-10, 9-11, 10-12 District Manager and All Star Player Selection Process
Step 1a: The League sends out a Google Form for all eligible players and families at each level to complete, expressing their interest to be considered for the postseason.
Step 1b: Managers from AAA - Majors provide the Division Director, PostSeason Director, & President a list of players they believe would best represent Danville Little League in district play. Selections should be based on baseball skills, sportsmanship, commitment, character/integrity, competitiveness, hustle, team spirit, team leadership, and service.
Step 2: Division Directors/President provide the names selected to all managers (per division) for them to rank from 1-25 together with their team’s coaches. Teams should keep their rankings confidential. The average from each manager’s rankings of each player forms the top 8 players from each division. The League Administrators will cross reference the Manager lists with the commitment forms submitted.
Note: Selections are NOT based solely on stats in GameChanger; they are only used as a guideline as needed. When deemed necessary, the League President may call for Tryouts to aid in fielding the most competitive team.
Note: Any accusation of collusion by coaches to manipulate the Top 8 will be investigated, potentially triggering an independent tryout and possible disqualification of the manager and his/her player from postseason play.
Step 3: Managers and coaches interested in interviewing to be a District Manager must submit their interest via a Google Form sent out by the league. Manager candidates that have a player in the Top 8 have the automatic right to interview as manager for districts. All things being equal preference will be given to the candidate whose player was voted into the top 8. If no manager candidate with a player in the Top 8 submits an interest form, a manager will be selected from those who are invited to be interviewed by the selection panel. Please see below for more detailed manager selection procedures. The outcome of this process is to select the best manager for each age level.
Step 4: All prospective managerial candidates must be invited to go before the Interview Panel.
Note: Interview Panels for each division will not include any members that have a prospective district player at that level.
Step 5: The players selected for the team should come from the original selection from managers’ rankings (Top 8). The manager then selects the final spots on the roster (4 in most cases- pitcher, catcher, utility player, etc; the maximum number for a district roster is 14); the players are approved by the President before they are added to the team.
Step 6: Managers will inform the players who make the district team. The PostSeason Director, Player Agent and/or the President will inform families who did not make the district team.
Note: The same as with preseason try-outs applies; for those not selected for a team, the details regarding their candidacy shall be held in confidence and remain private.
Player and Parent Commitments
The player and parent commitment to All-Stars must be a solid commitment. District Players must bear in mind that their first commitment is to their team before any other Non-Little League team (ie: travel ball) or to any other sports camps or sports teams during the All-Star Season.
In the past, Little League rules have expressly prohibited a player or manager/coach from being involved in any other youth baseball program during the All Star season. There will be no refunds to a player who is removed for not fulfilling their commitment once they pay their fees.
8-10, 9-11, 10-12, District All Star Manager Selection Process
For the 12u District All Star team, the manager and selected coaches must be a manager or coach of record in the Majors division. Preference will be given to managers in the Majors division and then coaches in the Majors division.
